The first PS5 commercial reveals — and the release date looks imminent

Updated 9 a.m. ET: This story has been updated with an official Sony video.

A TV ad for the PS5 leaked early, revealing how Sony intends to show off the best aspects of the new console.

The video was posted on PlayStation's Hungarian-language YouTube channel (via VGC) and later removed. Shortly after, Sony uploaded the video to the official PlayStation channel. The video can be seen below.

In this VFX-heavy ad, the VO and text on the screen focus on the immersive experience the player feels when playing the game on the PS5. This probably comes from the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, as well as the console's 3D audio.

The text at the end of the ad emphasizes the point by stating "haptic feedback," "adaptive triggers," and "3D audio." This is the same thing heard in the video voice-over that shouts, "Welcome to a new world of immersion."

In a PlayStation Blog post accompanying the new trailer, several developers reveal how they will utilize the DualSense controller. For example, in "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," you can sense a rumbling sound coming from a specific direction and know where enemies are coming from; in "Horizon: Forbidden West," you can tell where enemies are coming from thanks to adaptive sensors: In Forbidden West, adaptive triggers "make the feel of using weapons more unique and satisfying," while in Gran Turismo 7 they are used to replicate the feel of the brake pedal.

The final marketing slogan, "Play has no limits," is already everywhere, including billboards during UEFA Champions League soccer matches, and as VGC points out, the Champions League final is Saturday, August 23, and is sponsored by PlayStation. Therefore, it is possible that this ad was scheduled to be shown for the first time in front of a large audience throughout Europe and around the world.

We expect another proper announcement from Sony later this month regarding the PS5. No word yet on pricing or release date, but it is expected to be available in November. We also expect an official commercial for the PS5 to be released soon, so we hope that the final price and release date will be announced as soon as possible.

The Xbox Series X is also expected to bring big news soon, including price, release date, and information about the entry-level Xbox Series S. Xbox is trying to sell their new game console, superior GPU power, and the value of Xbox Game Pass, focus on different features such as the Smart Delivery system, which allows users to purchase games for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC at the same time.
