This fall, the new iPhone 12 has many new features waiting for us, including 5G connectivity, a powerful new A14 Bionic chip, and an improved camera. And the price will apparently be higher.

A new report on the state of the smartphone market released this week by TrendForce analysts includes a prediction on the iPhone 12's price. The bad news is that this forecast calls for the iPhone 12 model to be priced $50 to $100 more than the iPhone 11 model.

Specifically, TrendForce believes that the new iPhones will start at $699 to $749 for the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and $799 to $849 for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max. This compares to $699 for the iPhone 11.

For the iPhone 12 Pro, TrendForce says $1,049 to $1,099, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max could be $1,149 to $1,199. iPhone 11 Pro is $999 and iPhone 11 Pro Max is $1, 099 dollars.

At first glance, it may seem likely that iPhone prices will increase with the release of the iPhone 12. All four new models are set to feature 5G modems, and the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max are expected to feature OLED panels instead of the LCD screens that adorn the iPhone 11. In both cases, Apple will be adding more expensive components to its phones.

However, the TrendForce report is one of the few that predicted an increase in iPhone 12 prices. Earlier this summer, another report claimed that the 5.4-inch model of the iPhone 12 might cost $50 more than the iPhone 11, but most of the rumors seem to indicate that Apple is keeping iPhone prices down with this update.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple watcher, reports that Apple is trying to keep the cost of the phone down. Most recently, Kuo reported that Apple has settled on a new battery design that is cheaper than the one used in previous iPhones.

As with other upcoming products, Apple has not given any hints about the iPhone 12's pricing plan. However, one thing that seems like a safe bet ahead of the iPhone 12's debut is that it will likely be offered in a much more bare-bones box than usual.

The TrendForce report echoes earlier rumors that Apple will not include EarPods or chargers with this year's iPhones. Consumers may have to come up with additional cash to purchase an iPhone if they do not already have such a tool on hand.

If Apple holds an iPhone 12 launch event in September, as some expect, we will know exactly how much we will pay for the iPhone 12 next month. However, the phone itself is not likely to ship before October.
