Nvidia has released a video of Doom Eternal running on the new GeForce RTX 3080, demonstrating that the Ampere-based graphics card easily outperforms the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

The new GPU delivers at least a 50 percent performance boost, almost always delivering frame rates in excess of 100 frames per second, even with the latest Doom games maxed out and running at 4K. [However, it should be remembered that Nvidia is selling the RTX 3080 for $699, rather than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti's $999 starting price. Therefore, the RTX 3080 appears to be quite a bargain for PC gamers.

The GeForce RTX 3000 series has the potential for many more optimizations. Therefore, this Doom Eternal demo may be just an early taste of the power offered by the new GPU architecture.

But this is not all that Nvidia showed off. They also released a video showing how Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing is achieved with the RTX 3000 series.

This demo video does not show frame rates, but it looks very impressive. The next GeForce cards promise a 2X improvement in ray tracing performance compared to the GeForce RTX 2000 series. So you can expect a graphics card that delivers this slick and nimble real-time rendering without the game's frame rate dropping to a crawl.

Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will support ray tracing. However, if you want to see the game at its best, as seen in the Cyberpunk 2077 video, you may want to get a GeForce RTX 3080 or RTX 3070.

Nvidia also posted a video of ray tracing enabled in Fortnite. It's a bit overkill for the visual style of a battle royale game, but it looks very smart.

The last video featured a breakdown of how ray tracing with the new Ampere GPU architecture and other Nvidia graphics technologies will look in upcoming games and Minecraft.

This series of videos provides a pretty compelling argument for upgrading your gaming PC with one of the new GeForce GPUs or looking for one of the best gaming PCs.

If you take the former route, you will need to be savvy, as it is important to have other PC components in place that can take full advantage of these powerful new graphics cards.
