Update: Apple has officially confirmed the September 15 Apple event, but has not announced any new products.

Something is expected to be announced by Apple today at 9am BST (2pm PT, 6am PT). That could simply be when the iPhone 12 launch event will take place. Or it could be the announcement of the Apple Watch 6 and iPad Air 4.

However, the source of the leak, iAppleTimes, believes that the AirPods Studio, Apple's first over-the-ear headphones and expected to be an attempt to pit Sony and Bose against each other to become the best noise-canceling headphones, could finally be revealed is expected to be today.

We were expecting a summer reveal, so there is no chance that the AirPods Studio will be unveiled anytime soon.

Now, iAppleTimes is not known for accuracy like some leakers. However, rumors of the AirPods Studio have been swirling for some time now, and we believe that Apple is preparing something more than next-generation earbuds in the form of the AirPods 3.

If Apple does indeed unveil the AirPods Studio today, we expect to see over-the-ear headphones loaded with smart audio technology. From high-end active noise cancellation to Siri integration to the ability to reconfigure audio output even when the headphones are worn virtually back-to-back.

Other rumored features include automatic head and neck detection. Essentially, this means that playback could be automatically paused when the headphones are placed around the neck and automatically resumed when they are placed back on the head.

The AirPods Studio is also expected to include a custom equalizer. This will work on iOS devices and Mac computers and will allow adjustment of low, medium, and high frequency bands on the headphones' sound profile.

And finally, the AirPods Studio is expected to feature the same pairing technology as the AirPods Pro and may bring back the H1 chip as well as touch controls.

Given the sound quality and smart features of the AirPods Pro, we are eager to see what Apple can do with over-the-ear headphones. We have high hopes and will know if they are met soon.
