The price of the PS5 may change — thanks to the Xbox Series X

Microsoft has announced the launch of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. And Sony may have noticed.

While announcing a November 10 release date for the new Xbox, Microsoft said the Xbox Series X will be priced at $499. Also, according to at least one publication, Sony may reconsider the PS5 release date and price after seeing Microsoft's plans.

This information comes from European gaming magazine Gamereactor, which cites an anonymous source claiming that the PS5 price is "significantly" overpriced and that Sony may lower its pricing plan to match Xbox.

If this report is accurate, the PS5 could also be $499, and the digital version without the disc drive could be $100 cheaper.

Sony has not announced a price or release date for the PS5, nor has it publicly responded to Microsoft's big announcement. Therefore, this could end up being mere speculation.

Until Microsoft announced the Xbox price increase this week, both console makers had remained silent on the price of the new version. We have gotten some information on the rival systems, including specs and a few game titles, which we will discuss later in this report.

After Microsoft's announcement, we learned that the Xbox Series X will officially launch on November 10, with pre-orders beginning September 22. Users can obtain the console through the Xbox All Access program, which allows them to lease the system and use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for 24 months for $34.99 per month.

Sony has not set a definite release date or when pre-orders will begin, which is beginning to concern us a bit. It is possible that Sony has been waiting for Xbox pricing and will soon reveal more details about the PS5. The ball is definitely in Sony's court.
