PS5 events could include Final Fantasy 16 - here's the proof

Sony has scheduled a PS5 event for September 16. It is also possible that a new Final Fantasy game will be announced.

Final Fantasy brand manager and Square Enix executive officer Shinji Hashimoto tweeted an enthusiastic response to news of the upcoming PS5 event, sparking speculation that a new Final Fantasy game may be announced.

While this kind of event excitement is not uncommon for those in the gaming industry, it is worth noting that the tweet was quickly deleted. Twitter user PS5Countdown took a screenshot of the tweet before it was deleted, emphasizing that the Final Fantasy XVI Twitter account is still alive.

Given that the account was created in August and that Hashimoto has since deleted the enthusiastic tweet, it is possible that Final Fantasy 16 will be released on Wednesday. According to some reports, the game could be a timed exclusive title for the PS5, meaning it will appear on Sony's next-generation game console before the Xbox Series X and other platforms.

Final Fantasy is a game series that has long been associated with Sony's PlayStation. Therefore, a Final Fantasy announcement at the PS5 showcase would not be out of the realm of the imagination.

While Sony is expected to discuss the PS5's price and release date (currently pegged for November), this week's PlayStation 5 Showcase will likely focus on games. Sony said it expects "updates on the latest titles from worldwide studios and world-class development partners."

Square Enix released a remake of Final Fantasy VII earlier this year, so longtime fans of the game series had a game to keep them occupied. However, a next-generation Final Fantasy game seems more likely.

And it would provide Sony with a new title to add to its list of PS5 exclusives. The Xbox Series X, on the other hand, seems to be losing ground in this area, especially with the postponement of Halo Infinite.
