PS5 Pre-order - Sony promises more consoles in "coming days"

PS5 Pre-order - Sony promises more consoles in "coming days"

You're not the only one upset with Sony's handling of PS5 pre-orders; pre-orders for the $499.99 PS5 and $399.99 Digital Edition opened shortly after Sony's mid-week gaming showcase.

To make matters worse, even confirmed PS5 pre-orders do not seem to guarantee the console on launch day, and Amazon has sent an email to buyers informing them that there may be a wait time.

Now Sony has accepted that things are not going smoothly and has apologized to fans for the way it has handled the situation. 'Honestly, PS5 pre-orders could have been smoother,' Sony's official PlayStation account tweeted. 'We are truly sorry.

"We will begin taking pre-orders for more PS5 consoles over the next few days. And more PS5s will be available towards the end of the year."

Hopefully this is a sign that either Sony is being too conservative with their initial allocation, or that they have plans to ramp up production soon.

In any case, it is good to see that Sony has recognized its mistake, as PS5 pre-orders have opened in a manner opposite to its original promise: In July, Eric Lempel told Geoff Keighley, curator of the Summer Game Festival, that told him: "We'll let you know when we start taking reservations. There won't be a minute to spare.

"At some point we will let you know when you can pre-order the PlayStation 5.

Ironically, the man who asked this question also seems to be in a state of reservation limbo.

Hopefully Sony's promised additional inventory will meet demand; a search for PS5 pre-orders on Ebay finds listings for up to $12,500 for confirmed console bundles.

This confusion is good news for Microsoft, which will begin taking pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and S on September 22 at 8:00 am (11:00 am CST). There is no guarantee that the new Xbox will not be as scarce as the PS5, but unless Sony acts very quickly, the company may be able to pick up a few disappointed prospective PS5 buyers.
