The custom-designed iPhone 12, reminiscent of Apple's early days, looks great, but it's unlikely you'll be able to buy one, let alone get one.

The iPhone 12 is by Caviar (via LetsGoDigital), a company best known for its decadent "Space Odyssey" iPhone 12 Pro. However, the cheapest you can get these versions for is $9,900, while its price started at $6,600. The most expensive version is the iPhone 12 Pro Max with 512 GB of storage for $11,150.

The back glass has been completely removed, replaced by a retro wooden panel. Embedded in the panel is a titanium plate that resembles the monitor and keyboard of the Apple I, the first computer the company produced in 1976. The wood is also printed with the original Apple logo, which looks quite different from the company's current ultra-clean design philosophy.

What makes this phone unique (and very expensive) is that part of the Apple I motherboard is embedded in the lower third of the iPhone's back. only about 200 Apple Is have ever been made, most of them safely hidden in museums and private collections. Keep in mind that Caviar only offered a total of nine of this model, making this phone a collector's item twice over.

If that is too expensive for you, there is also an Apple I Light model of the iPhone 12 Pro available starting at $4,900. This one has the titanium elements removed, but retains the logo and a fairly small portion of the motherboard. There are 49 of this model available, which should theoretically make it much easier to obtain.

For those of us who can't afford thousands of dollars, the regular iPhone 12 series will be released next month, and the latest leaks point to an October 13 reveal. You can see some of its new features in Caviar's custom design, like the flat sides and quad camera on the Pro model, and the new LiDAR sensor. But we expect a more typical glass-and-metal design.

As for internal specs, we expect a new 5G-enabled A14 Bionic chipset and OLED displays on all models. In exchange for these improvements, however, it is believed that the base price of the iPhone 12 could increase by $50 to $100.
