The release of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 has been delayed from October 15 to October 29.

The RTX 3070 will be available for $499, the same price as the Xbox Series X and PS5, but will offer more performance than the $999 GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. It could be the best value graphics card Nvidia has ever produced, and will likely be bought up by PC gaming PC gaming fans are likely to buy it up.

However, Nvidia's appetite for new GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards has been a double-edged sword for the graphics giant: The $699 GeForce RTX 3080 sold out almost immediately, frustrating some PC gamers. And even the $1,499 GeForce RTX 3090 sold out quickly.

So expect more demand for the next generation of Nvidia GPUs, which are both affordable and powerful. And it appears that Nvidia is taking steps to avoid a huge inventory shortage by learning from the RTX 3080 launch and delaying the RTX 3070 launch.

"We heard from many people that more cards should be available on launch day. To make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29," Nvidia said. 'While this may be disappointing for those eager to purchase the GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on the launch date.'

Such a move makes a lot of sense. However, it puts Nvidia in a bit of an awkward position, as AMD will launch the RTX 3070 shortly after it takes the covers off its Radeon RTX 6000 series graphics cards, including Big Navi, on October 28. While these cards are expected to offer high-end performance, they are also priced fairly competitively, so the RTX 3070 could face stiff competition at the end of the month.
