As the PS4 enters its seventh year, hard drive space is running low. Fortunately, Sony has made it easy to install external storage, and thanks to early Prime Day discounts, you won't have to worry about juggling a PS4 game install for much longer.

Officially licensed by Seagate, the PS4 Game Drive is now $65 on Amazon. That's a 40% savings off the original retail price of $110.

Seagate's solution is one of the best external hard drives for PS4. The design is minimalist, but clearly PlayStation, with a style that complements the look and feel of the black PS4, whether in the original model, slim version, or Pro. It is plug-and-play capable and shares power with the PS4, so there is no need to assign a separate outlet.

Most important, of course, is capacity: the PS4 console comes with 500GB or 1TB of internal storage by default, but Seagate's game drive boosts this to 2TB. According to the company, this is enough space for more than 50 games, but of course it depends on the type of titles you play. The excellent recent release of "Spelunky 2" is under 500 MB, while "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" is over 200 GB with various updates.

A warning to those who have pre-ordered the PS5: while it should be possible to use this on the PS5, the faster SSD storage required by Sony's latest game console means that this extra capacity will not be able to run PS5 games directly. Nevertheless, thanks to the new console's excellent backward compatibility, current PS4 games will still be playable. It is also possible to store PS5 data on this drive, which must be transferred to the internal SSD in order to use it.
