Google Pixel5 may have serious design flaws

The Pixel 5 appears to suffer from a manufacturing defect that causes a gap between the display and the side rails.

Google's Pixel Phone Help forums and XDA Forums have reported multiple instances of the screen coming off the body, the most common location being near the upper left corner of the phone. Needless to say, this is not something you want to find on a brand new flagship phone.

To make matters worse, users are reporting this issue from the moment they take the phone out of the box. Therefore, it seems that Google cannot even blame this problem on lack of user care or wear and tear.

Another factor that makes this issue more frustrating is that the Pixel 5 is supposed to be IP68 waterproof and dustproof rated. Such a large gap in the device would certainly invalidate this rating, as it appears to be large enough for water or dust to enter the unit and cause significant damage.

The Pixel5 is still new and has barely appeared in the first wave of pre-order customers. We'll have to wait and see if the teardown video reveals the problem or if Google makes an official statement on the matter.

In our review of Google's Pixel 5, we were very impressed, especially with the camera, battery life, and software. They also praised the design of the larger 5.8-inch device, but may need to reconsider in light of this new issue.
