Apple may have revealed its top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max last week, but there are still a few things we don't know about this model. Now, however, regulatory filings have revealed some of the internal specifications, and that's not good news.

As far as we are concerned, the iPhone 12 Pro Max will have 6GB of RAM and a 3,687 mAh battery. This is 282 mAh, or 7% smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

This information comes from a regulatory filing released by TENAA (via MacRumors), China's equivalent of the FCC. According to the report, like the iPhone 12, the 12 Pro Max has a noticeably smaller battery than the 2019 model, which will not please those expecting a significant improvement in battery life.

It's not all bad news, as Apple claims that the iPhone 12 Pro Max will have the same battery life as last year's model despite its smaller battery. According to Apple's calculations, that means 20 hours of video playback and 80 hours of audio. In our own testing, the iPhone 11 Pro Max totaled a whopping 11 hours and 54 minutes, which ranked it on our Best Smartphone Battery Duration list.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is powered by the A14 bionic chipset, which is more energy efficient thanks to its 5nm manufacturing process, which may offset the difference in battery capacity. Nevertheless, the iPhone 12 has 53 minutes less battery life than the iPhone 11 (10 hours 23 minutes vs. 11 hours 16 minutes), which is not bad considering the iPhone 12's increased power.

This was with 5G turned off, and once turned on, the iPhone 12 lost an additional 2 hours of battery life and died after 8 hours and 25 minutes. iPhone 12 Pro Max may surprise us, but that is not a good sign. Unfortunately, we won't know for sure until we test it ourselves.

At least the 12 Pro Max added 2GB of RAM this year. However, iOS does not require as much memory as Google's mobile operating system because it is not as resource-intensive.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available on November 13, with pre-orders opening a week earlier on November 6.
