The classic Halo game is getting this huge boost on Xbox Series X

This is because "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" will be fully optimized for Microsoft's next-generation consoles.

This means that both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be able to enjoy the classic Halo game in 4K resolution and at a whopping 120 frames per second This optimized Halo game will be available on November 17, immediately following the launch of the new Xbox consoles on November 10, It will also be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Now, it is hardly surprising that a tweaked version of the old Halo game will appear on the new next-generation Xbox console and run much faster than before... if you put 12 teraflops of graphics power into a game that dates back to 2001, performance is bound to improve.

However, both "Halo: Combat Evolved" and "Halo 2" have been remastered and are already significantly better than when they were released. So having these run at 120fps instead of 4K or 60fps is still something to be excited about.

The jump from 30fps to 60fps and then to 120fps will noticeably improve the smoothness and responsiveness of the game. Therefore, running a Halo game at 120 fps in both the campaign and multiplayer can mean the difference between pulling off a perfect headshot and failing miserably. [I'd love to see games like the original "Fable" run much smoother with much higher resolution, or even a classic like "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic."

To take full advantage of the 120fps frame rate, a TV or display with a 120Hz refresh rate would be ideal. But even if you don't, games optimized for the Xbox Series X, which can achieve 120 fps, are likely to feel really smooth.

Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Series S are currently being taken, but may be difficult to secure as the consoles are selling out very quickly.
