PS5 Entertainment App Revealed - here is the full lineup (updated)

Update: Sony has revealed that all of the PS5 entertainment apps announced today will be available on day one, including Amazon Video and Hulu. The original text is as follows.

The list of PS5 streaming apps available on day one has been confirmed by Sony, and as one would expect, they are all big names.

Those who pre-order the PS5 will be able to watch Season 2 of Mandalorian on the PS5. Sony revealed on the PlayStation Blog that it will have six streaming apps ready for the PS5 launch date (November 12 in the US and November 19 in the UK and EU). Those apps are: Apple TV, Disney Plus, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch, and YouTube. Not on the list? Amazon Prime Video.

The blog post notes that Amazon Prime Video and more apps are coming down the road, including MyCanal, Hulu, and Peacock. HBO Max was not mentioned, and we are not optimistic. There is no mention of HBO Max, so we are not optimistic.

(Update: After this article first appeared, Crunchyroll contacted Tom's Guide and revealed that apps with access to thousands of anime titles will be available when the PS5 launches.)

Like the PS4, the PS5 will allow you to play games stream Spotify songs while playing, or live stream gameplay through Twitch.

Sony also announced more details about the PS5's streaming entertainment experience: as we saw during our PS5 user experience tour, there will be a dedicated space for media entertainment. It will be located right next to the game home screen so you can quickly switch between game and media content."

It notes.

PS5 will no longer require users to go through the PS Store to download entertainment apps; they will be available for download from the media area.

Among the PS5 accessories is a new media remote control that allows for easy control of the media area. This remote has play/pause, fast forward, and fast reverse buttons, and can also control the power and volume of compatible TVs. There are also dedicated shortcuts for Netflix, Disney Plus, Spotify, and YouTube.
