Nintendo Switch2 allows you to get the display upgrade you are waiting for

Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 have been heating up over the past few months, and the latest leaks suggest a serious upgrade for Nintendo's second-generation hybrid console.

Apparently, the Switch 2 will feature a Mini-LED display, a significant upgrade from the 720p LCD screens found on previous Switch consoles.

The news comes from Taiwan's Economic Daily News, which states that the Mini-LED panel will be provided by Taiwan's Innolux Corporation. Nintendo visited the company to obtain the screens, which appear to be ready for the Switch 2 launch in 2021.

For those who don't know, Mini-LED displays are composed of millions of tiny LEDs and offer better contrast, response time, and energy efficiency than typical LCD panels. They also do not suffer from the burn-in and other problems that plague typical OLED displays. Apple is said to be incorporating this technology in the next iPad Pro, but it is not yet widely available. [However, adoption of this technology by Apple and Nintendo would be a major step toward eventual cost reduction. This is because the more companies compete to win their business, the lower they will try to charge.

The Switch 2 is also said to feature an Nvidia Tegra Xavier processor, 4K resolution support, two USB-C ports, and a 64GB SSD. Other rumors suggest that the controller will be redesigned and may not be playable in handheld mode, but the fact that Nintendo is said to include a screen on this device would contradict that ridiculous claim. Furthermore, the Switch's appeal lies in its ability to switch instantly between TV and handheld modes.

While it has been suggested that a Switch 2 launch may be imminent, it is unlikely that anything will be announced this year; the COVID pandemic has hit everyone, and there will likely be delays in hardware production. However, given the Switch's sales this year, there is no need for Nintendo to rush to release a new console. Not until the Xbox Series X and PS5 launch craze this fall has died down.
