PS5 just handed the Xbox Series X this big graphic victory

If you were hoping that the PS5 would be a perfect match for your 1440p gaming monitor, prepare for disappointment.

IGN Italia reports that you will not get 1440p output from Sony's new gaming console. This information is said to have come from Sony itself, and there is little doubt as to its authenticity.

This will annoy some fans who were hoping to get the most out of their new gaming consoles. Many 1440p gaming monitors support a high refresh rate of 120 Hz, which is closely related to the PS5's ability to run some games at 120 frames per second. However, by not offering this resolution, users will have no choice but to purchase a more expensive 4K monitor or use a 4K TV to support it.

Going back a generation, this was also the case with the PS4 Pro, which could only upscale the standard 1080p output rather than offer 1440p, although it could offer up to 4K for certain games. The Xbox One X, however, was able to offer this as a convenient intermediate output for

users. Fortunately, the PS5 supports several other advanced features, including 4K resolution at 60 fps, up to 8K resolution, ray tracing capabilities, and, as mentioned, up to 120 fps for certain titles. In addition to graphics, the PS5 has much more to offer, including a DualSense controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and a custom SSD that boasts blazing speeds.

Rivals Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S do not share this problem. The Series S is 1440p at most due to its less powerful hardware, while the Series X, like the PS5, can handle up to 4K, but offers 1440p for those who want it.

Thus, the Xbox console definitely has the advantage when it comes to display flexibility. However, with the Xbox console launching on November 10 and the PS5 arriving on November 12, it won't take long to see how both consoles fare in actual use.
