Any new technology, including game consoles, has a few problems when it is first launched. The PS5, launched earlier this week, is no exception. And people are already discovering some problems.

Specifically, a small number of PS5 consoles seem to be suffering from software corruption issues when trying to load PS4 games from an external hard drive.

For the most part, the PS5 is working fine, but a common error reported is a "database rebuild" bug that occurs when users attempt to launch PS4 games from external storage. Apparently, the console affected by this bug will power down and upon reboot will declare: "The database is corrupt and will be rebuilt.

PushSquare states that the problem was resolved by following the on-screen prompts. However, after the difficulties people experienced in getting their PS5, this is obviously something they would prefer to avoid.

Other users have reported dealing with similar issues when putting the PS5 into rest mode or transferring data from the PS4 while playing Spider-Man Remastered.

With so much riding on the success of this launch, it is safe to assume that Sony (and Spider-Man developer Insomniac) are aware of this issue and are working on a fix. Hopefully, this will be addressed as soon as possible, in time for the console's European launch on November 19.

The Xbox Series X has had no shortage of problems since its recent launch, including the inability to log into Xbox Live, the inability to play games remotely from a PC, and problems with the disk drive. There have also been reports of smoke coming out of the console during use, but these have been dismissed as hoaxes.

Remember not to panic if the PS5 pops up a database-related error message. Follow the prompts on the screen and wait for the system to resolve the issue on its own. If the error message appears repeatedly, try not to do anything that caused the problem until Sony provides a fix.
