Nvidia RTX3080 Beats AMD Big Navi in Cyberpunk 2077 — Here's Why

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated to be one of the biggest games of 2020, and if you have an Nvidia GeForce graphics card instead of the new AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPU, your PC could be the platform to play it.

Because at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 will only support ray tracing on machines with Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards, and the powerful GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080, in all their near future glory Because they will be the game cards to show off.

Despite the power and ray tracing support of the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, Team Red's GPUs will not be able to run Cyberpunk 2077 at its highest graphics settings, at least initially.

CD Project Red, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, are working with AMD to implement ray tracing support for games running on new AMD graphics cards, including the very powerful Big Navi, as soon as possible. The timing of this is still unknown, but it would not be surprising to see support begin in early 2021.

Why is ray tracing so important in "Cyberpunk 2077"?

Well, from the trailer, which is enabled in the game running on the new Ampere-based GeForce graphics card, the dystopian future setting of Night City looks very realistic, with neon hues reflecting off every shiny surface. And in a game that wants you to be immersed in its world, features like this go a long way toward enhancing that immersion.

If you are fortunate enough to have an Xbox Series X (if not, see where to buy an Xbox Series X), you will likely be able to enjoy "Cyberpunk 2077" with ray tracing enabled.

The trailer released shows a comparison between the game running on the Xbox One X and the game running on Microsoft's new flagship console.

However, ray tracing is very demanding on the GPU; the RTX 3070 starts at $400 and the RTX 3080 at $699, but both are fairly impossible to find in stock.

In short, when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077, the new Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards seem to have an advantage over their AMD Radeon rivals. Whether this advantage will extend to other upcoming games remains to be seen.

However, it is an interesting time in PC gaming as competition is heating up in the graphics card arena, and AMD and Nvidia are good news for those looking to build their PCs in 2021, as they will be able to offer a new and more powerful graphics card that will be able to handle the same high quality of the Radeon Radeon cards that AMD and Nvidia are offering.
