Black Friday TV specials are blowing away our expectations. Right now, Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon are just a handful of retailers offering the best Black Friday TV deals, with 2020 Smart TVs starting as low as $99. You can also get a 50-inch 4K TV for just $149.

And it's not just cheap TVs that are on sale: the 55-inch Vizio OLED is down to $899, $400 off at Best Buy. Meanwhile, some of our favorite TVs from 2020, including LG's CX OLED and TCL's 6-series QLED, are on sale for the lowest prices ever. But be quick, as many deals sell out faster than stores can restock.

What are the best TV deals on Black Friday? That depends on the type of set you are interested in. Black Friday TV deals are designed to get you excited about the sale, so don't be fooled by the hype of each retailer. The basics of buying a great TV on sale are the same as for a regular-priced model: know what features to expect, what extras you want, and read reviews to get a feel for the good and bad of a particular model.

In general, Best Buy offers the best TV deals on Black Friday. Walmart, on the other hand, has the best deals on TVs from more affordable brands such as Hisense, TCL, and Visio; Amazon usually tries to price-compete with both Best Buy and Walmart, so be sure to compare if you tend to choose one retailer over the other.

Most of the prices you are seeing today are the lowest of the season, especially on big brand models. If you don't act now to bargain, the next wave of TV discounts will come before the Super Bowl in February. But by that time, most TV manufacturers will have announced their new 2021 model lineups.

If Black Friday TV specials catch your eye, examine them closely. Plus, if you buy now, you'll get a brand new set to make you feel at home during the holiday season.

Pay attention to the fine print on the deals; you may see TVs on sale for under $100, but they all have fairly strict restrictions. Most lack smart features or rely on third-party software with limited app options. The biggest problem we see on Black Friday, however, is low resolution. Some of them don't even offer full high definition, opting for 720p resolution. Some have surprisingly low prices, under $100, but don't expect the smart features and 4K panels found on the best TVs.

Another noteworthy category is refurbished or open-box products. These have the potential for huge savings, but they may wear out before they are installed and warranties may not be as solid as new ones. Refurbished (used) products are a good way to save money throughout the year, but new products are the best deals going into the holiday season.

Remember the old saying about things that look too good to be true. Not every cheap Black Friday TV is a bargain, even if the price is attractive.
