AirPods3 Release Date Just Leaked — What to Expect Here

We know that AirPods 3 is coming. Apple's wireless earbuds have proven popular enough to support multiple versions, so it makes sense to release a third iteration. Apple's wireless earbuds have proven popular enough to support multiple versions, so it makes sense to release a third iteration.

However, a new date has emerged, courtesy of a leaker who believes the AirPods 3 will appear in March 2021.

The new date comes from LeaksApplePro, who tweeted only "AirPods 3 on track for a release in March." The leak source has had a mixed track record, with iPhone 12 predictions on and off the mark, but this date seems solid, certainly in line with Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo's prediction over the summer that the AirPods 3 would be released in 2021. LeaksApplePro's tweet is a bit more specific.

As for what to expect from the new AirPods, it is widely believed that the new model will look a lot like the AirPods Pro, with a smaller stem. That could mean the charging case will also be smaller.

A smaller size does not necessarily mean shorter battery life, as there are reports that Apple is working to improve listening time. Over the summer, Apple patented a new contextual audio system that can lower or cut the volume of audio when potential danger is nearby. Also, iOS 14, a recent addition to other AirPods like Dolby Atmos support and spatial audio, is expected to be a candidate for the feature.

The AirPods are expected to be a hot item this holiday season, but if you can resist getting the earbuds, it looks like a new model could be on the way in the spring.
