PS5DualSense controller can imitate a specific gun in Hitman 3

The PS5 DualSense has generally been a big hit with fans and critics alike, delighting gamers with its sensitive tactile feedback and resistive trigger buttons. Of course, the PS5 DualSense controller is only as good as the games that support it, and an ambitious game is set to launch next month:

This action/stealth game will feature a number of firearms, each requiring slightly different pressures and mechanics with the DualSense

This information is based on the following information.

This information comes directly from Sony in a PlayStation Blog post by Travis Barbour, communications manager at IO Interactive, the developer of Hitman. He shared a lot of information about "Hitman 3," which will be released on January 20 for PS4 and PS5 (and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC-Barbour did not mention them here). In addition to gameplay and PlayStation VR compatibility, Barbour also told us how the PS5 version will handle gunfights.

"All guns in the game support adaptive triggers, so you can feel the real sensation every time you fire," he wrote.

"Automatic rifles simulate the recoil of each bullet and implement tactile feedback unique to each weapon in conjunction with each weapon's distinctive sound profile. Essentially, it emulates the sensation of firing a particular weapon in the same way that each weapon emulates its own sound.

While a detailed description of every gun would be too long (and would probably spoil much of what IO wants players to discover), Barbour explained how the sniper rifle works. If you hold down the R2 button while aiming, the "Focus" effect slows the game down, giving you time to compose your shot. The R2 button also reaches a tension point, resisting your finger. When ready to fire, press the button down fully and a "click" will sound as the shot is fired.

It would be interesting to implement this effect on one gun. Implementing it on every gun in the game is very ambitious and seems to be exactly the type of thing DualSense excels at; we won't know the actual effect until January 20, but it's good to see Sony's new controller also offer game-specific enhancements for multi-platform titles.

Elsewhere, the blog post mentions the visual fidelity of "Hitman 3" on PS5 (4K resolution, 60fps frame rate, HDR support); PS4 owners can upgrade to the PS5 version for free, and those who purchase the PS5 version will also receive a free PS4 version. PS4 version will also be offered free of charge to those who purchase the PS5 version.

The details of the VR support for "Hitman 3" are a bit more complicated, but basically the PS4 version is compatible with PSVR, allowing the entire game to be played in virtual reality. It is also possible to revisit previous "Hitman" locations if you have played the previous two games in the series, but Barber did not explain exactly how this works. (You will need to have "Hitman" and "Hitman 2" on PS4, and may need a save file as well.)
