The "Cyberpunk 2077" debacle continues today, as GameStop has determined that the game is defective and is willing to offer refunds even if the game has been opened.

The news has not yet been officially announced by GameStop, but Kotaku has obtained an internal memo outlining its plans. The plan is to literally label the games "defective" and send the units back to the warehouse.

Normally, GameStop has a fairly strict return policy and usually does not accept games that have already been opened. However, this is not the usual situation; store employees have been instructed to accept opened Cyberpunk 2077 games.

The problem with Cyberpunk 2077 is that while it works fine on next-generation and older PS4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles, the same cannot be said for the original PS4 and Xbox One. Despite developer CD Projekt Red's previous claims that the game would work fine on older hardware, both consoles struggle to play the game.

Meanwhile, those with more powerful consoles and PCs were less than pleased with the state of the game, which was filled with bugs and other problems, frustrating gamers who were eagerly awaiting the game. For the most part, the consensus was that the game was not finished and should not have been released on December 10.

The CDPR initially offered dissatisfied players the opportunity to offer refunds, but their claims were denied by Sony and Microsoft. Sony eventually removed the game from its digital store and promised refunds to all who requested them. As of this writing, Microsoft has not removed the games, but has promised refunds to those who are not satisfied with the condition of the games.
