Cyberpunk 2077 Hit in Class Action Lawsuit

The devastation of "Cyberpunk 2077" has already hit developer CD Projekt Red's wallet after Sony allowed the PS4 version to be returned without question, but the financial damage may be a little more painful for the company.

On Christmas Eve, investor Andrew Trampe filed a lawsuit against CD Projekt Red, alleging that the company made "false and/or misleading" statements about the game, oversold the perfection of the title on various occasions, and underestimated the amount of bugs, among other unspecified damages The lawsuit was filed seeking damages.

The damage claim alleged that the game was "virtually unplayable on current generation Xbox and PlayStation systems due to the vast number of bugs" and that the company suffered "reputational and financial harm" as a result.

Evidence for this claim is a series of quotes purportedly taken verbatim from developer announcements and investor conference calls. For example, in one conference call in November, the company allegedly acknowledged the existence of the bug, but stated that it "believes the level of the bug is such that gamers will not notice it." The lawsuit also highlights the fact that CD Projekt Red indicated that the game was "complete and playable" in January 2020 and then repeatedly delayed it.

A press release accompanying the lawsuit from the Rosen Law Firm asks investors interested in joining the class action to contact the firm, which specializes in "global investor rights," by February 22, 2021.

For Cyberpunk 2077, the first month has been what can only be described as "rocky." While the experience varies greatly depending on which version you play (the PC version is relatively bug-free, and playing the previous generation version on next-generation hardware mitigates the performance issues of the console version), the company has promised to provide a major patch in the coming months and has yet more work to do It admits that it has more work to do.

The first of these, version 1.06, arrived a few days ago and should guarantee "better memory management and stability and fewer crashes" on the console. It also includes a fix for a nasty PC bug that causes all progress to be lost when save files exceed 8 MB, but unfortunately does not rescue saved games that are already unplayable.

Of course, not all bugs break the game like that bug. Some are just plain fun.
