UPDATE: SUP3R5, the company that developed the black custom PS5 units, has announced that it is canceling all orders, although it has nothing to do with Sony. The company says it will provide a full refund in response to a "credible threat to safety."

The message states that the company will try again if it determines that it is "safe to try again." However, given the course of events to date, we would not give your money to SUP3R5.

On January 8, the company reported problems processing orders and payments, and several complaints were filed against SUP3R5. The original article is below.

If you have your heart set on getting a black PS5, you may still be able to get one. The first batch of black PS5 consoles sold out, but the SUP3R5 website says to check back soon.

Earlier this week we heard about a limited edition PS5 console custom designed to resemble a PS2. The console was designed by SUP3R5, and is available in black, a color requested by fans since Sony announced the PS5 last year; it went on sale on Friday, January 8, and sold out immediately; the console is available for purchase on the PS5's website, and is available in a variety of colors, including black and white, black and white, and black.

The console will be sold by SUP3R5, with 304 custom PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition units available, plus 500 custom black dual-sense controllers. Why so few? For starters, the PS5 is extremely difficult to obtain, which limits the number of consoles that can be modified. It also seems to be a reference to March 3, 2000 (03/04), the PS2's release date in Japan.

The very big drawback, of course, is that these consoles are considerably more expensive than retail consoles. Be prepared to pay $649 for a black digital PS5 and $749 for a black PS5 with a disk drive. If you buy a regular console at a retail store, you will pay $399 and $499.

Similarly, the dual-sense controllers are set at $99 each (up from $69), and the customization process involves a complete disassembly of the controller, which will void the controller's Sony warranty. Fortunately, this problem does not arise because the console itself is simply removed from the outer panel.

It is also worth mentioning that you are buying at your own risk. Sony has already proven that it does not like third-party companies offering customized PS5 products, which is why it has cornered custom plate maker PlateStation. Something similar may happen before the black consoles ship in the spring and after you hand over your payment details. Likewise, little is known about SUP3R5, so pay close attention.

Also, the images that SUP3R5 uses to sell their custom consoles seem to have originally come from Reddit. In other words, the custom console that arrives may be different, although SUP3R5 has stated that the final design may be different. So keep in mind that there are many caveats here.
