Data Dump: Toto's Smart toilet will analyze your waste to tell you about your health

You sit on the toilet, happily contemplating the mysteries of life as you do your business. At the same time, the TOTO Wellness Smart Toilet is analyzing your product as you do your business, trying to figure out what's wrong with it.

When you're done, TOTO Wellness Smart Toilet sends a message to your phone: "Your diet seems unbalanced. Our recommended recipe is an avocado salad with salmon and chicken."

That's right, TOTO's Wellness Toilet, unveiled at the CES 2021 virtual conference, is the world's first toilet that actually tests your poop and tells you how to poop better next time.

"Toilets and humans have two unique touch points that you won't find anywhere else: skin and feces," TOTO's memorable press release reads.

"The WELLNESS TOILET directly touches the skin of the person sitting on the toilet, analyzing their feces and collecting a wealth of wellness data from their waste.

We'll take their word for it. While it is not clear exactly how the Wellness Toilet collects such data, TOTO states that the Thinking Throne "uses multiple cutting-edge sensing technologies to support consumer wellness."

In addition, the toilet scans "the body and its key outputs" to provide additional suggestions for improving health. Presumably this means things like heart rate. It could also somehow determine your "mental and physical state."

Unfortunately, this breakthrough in bathroom technology has yet to appear.

We expect to pay a lot of money for a TOTO Wellness Toilet. But perhaps the existing toilets will be like the men's restrooms at gas stations, where the men's bathrooms are not only for the men, but for the women as well.
