PS5 now runs Skyrim at 60fps - here's how to enable this

The PS5 can now run the perennially popular RPG "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" at a smooth 60 fps thanks to a new mod that removes the 30 fps limit. The mod also works on PS4, so Skyrim fans can get a performance boost even if they are not fortunate enough to purchase a PS5.

The mod can be seen in action in the video below and is available via Bethesda's mod database. Just install it, restart Skyrim, and you're good to go. According to the author's description, it is also compatible with the PS4 Pro, but since the game runs in 4K on this console, you probably won't get the full 60 fps.

This PS5/PS4 mod follows the "Uncap FPS" mod for Skyrim and Fallout 4, which was released last December and was only available for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

The mod is also available for the Xbox 3 and Xbox 4 Pro.

Admittedly, this is somewhat more work than simply letting it run normally: you have to download and enable the mod in Skyrim, restart the game, and then go back to the mod menu to remove or disable it. This will allow the game to run without frame caps and, importantly, will not disable achievements, but you will need to do this every time you play.

Still, it's a handy mod that at least breathes a little more life into "Skyrim" on PS4 and PS5, which is especially good news considering that Bethesda's next RPG projects, The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield, are still a few years away.
