Capcom has released a new trailer and gameplay footage for Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil Village for PS5 and Xbox Series X. It follows 2017's Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. And in a surprise announcement, Village producer Peter Fabiano said during the live stream that the new game will also be coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Users who purchased the last-gen version will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version for free.

Oh, a demo is available now for PS5 owners; it will be available later this spring for PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S owners.

The Village has many elements reminiscent of "Resident Evil 4". Not only is the inventory management the same as in "4," but there is a merchant called Duke who will help you purchase and upgrade your weapons.

Like Resident Evil VII, in Village the player plays as Ethan Winters. This title also features a first-person perspective, which is of course terrifying; what made VII particularly sadistic was its support for PSVR; it remains to be seen if Village will feature similar functionality.

Other announcements made during the showcase stream included Re:Verse, a new "Resident Evil" multiplayer game that anyone who purchases "Village" can play. Also, in honor of the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil, Ubisoft will join the festivities with Resident Evil 2-inspired costumes from Tom Clancy's The Division 2.

As for the upcoming CG movie "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness," Capcom has announced that it will be available on Netflix later this year.

Resident Evil: Village is available for pre-order today and will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 7, 2021.
