Every once in a while, a company makes an announcement that takes one back in surprise; LG has announced its new UltraGear GX9 monitors. One is the 45GX990A, a screen with 5K2K resolution and a bendable display that shifts from curved to flat with a simple pull.
In the press release, LG describes this bendable monitor as follows: “This 45-inch monitor can smoothly shift from completely flat to 900R curvature in seconds, giving users incredible flexibility and more control.
While not the first bendable display, it is the first to offer 5K2K resolution, making it stand out in the crowded computer monitor market. Admittedly, there is not a lot of content available at 5K, but having a monitor that supports this many pixels prepares you for the future.
On the subject of switching, the bendable monitors also offer an upgraded dual-mode feature, allowing you to switch between resolution and refresh rate presets depending on what you are doing on the monitor at the time.
Despite the fancy bending features, LG has not skimped on gaming performance either. It has an ultra-fast 0.03ms (GtG) response time, anti-glare and low reflection coatings, and a 21:9 aspect ratio that maximizes screen area. It also offers eight configurations for a variety of game genres, including FPS, RPGs, MOBAs, and racing simulators.
LG plans to showcase these monitors at the 2025 CES. Hopefully, LG will reveal pricing.
