January 2025 is a quiet month in terms of major new releases, but that doesn't mean there aren't some notable gems on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC. From tactical shooters to the highly anticipated “Marvel's Spider-Man 2” for PC, there is something for everyone this month.

Of particular note is “Freedom Wars Remastered,” which brings back the franchise's intense multiplayer action and allows up to eight players to join online. Switch players, meanwhile, can look forward to “Donkey Kong Country Returns HD,” a rebirth of the Wii release “Donkey Kong Country Returns HD” for the Nintendo Switch.

So if you're looking for a new gaming experience this January, we've compiled a list of the five biggest games releasing this month that deserve to be on your wish list.

“Freedom Wars Remastered” is a 2014 release set in a dystopian future where humanity is trapped in a giant prison city called the Panopticon It is an enhanced version of the action role-playing game. In this world, being alive is considered a crime, and individuals called “guilty” are sentenced to a million years in prison. In order to shorten their sentences, the sinners take on dangerous missions, fight powerful enemies, and rescue civilians in search of freedom.

The remastered version, which will be released on January 9, 2025 in Japan and January 10, 2025 worldwide, introduces several upgrades: improved graphics with 4K resolution and 60fps on PlayStation and PC, a refined weapon crafting system, new difficulty settings, and enhanced gameplay mechanics. The game also supports online co-op play for up to four players, allowing players to team up with friends to tackle challenging missions.

“Donkey Kong Country Returns HD” breathes new life into the beloved classic with impressive HD visuals and bonus levels for the Nintendo 3DS version. Players can dive into 80 action-packed stages either solo or in local co-op with friends. Along the way, they will face challenges such as stomping enemies, riding mine carts, soaring on rocket launchers, and charging through obstacles on a rhino lambi (it wouldn't be a Donkey Kong game otherwise).

The storyline follows Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as they set out to recover a stolen pile of bananas. When the Tiki Tak tribe arrives, they hypnotize the island animals into stealing Donkey Kong's precious bananas. However, Donkey Kong is unaffected by their mind control, and he teams up with Didi to defeat the Tiki tribe and restore peace to the jungle.

Warriors: Origins puts a new twist on the iconic hack-and-slash series, placing players in the turmoil of the Three Kingdoms period in China. Becoming an unnamed martial artist with amnesia, players learn about their past as they interact with iconic figures such as Cao Cao, Sunken, and Liu Bei.

The game takes things up a notch with large-scale battles where you can lead your troops and dive into strategic combat. It also features customizable characters, a wide array of weapons, and revamped gameplay.Powered by modern hardware like the PlayStation 5, “Warriors Origins”: Origins has some pretty impressive visuals, a dynamic battlefield, and longtime It is sure to be a hit with fans and newcomers alike.

Sniper Elite Resistance is a World War II shooter in which players play Harry Hawker, a talented sniper in the British Special Operations You play the role of Harry Hawker, a competent sniper in the British Special Operations Directorate. Your mission is to infiltrate and disrupt Axis operations in occupied Europe. The game mixes stealth and tactical combat, and you will use a variety of weapons and tools to achieve your objectives.

The game can also be played solo or jump into multiplayer, with options for both cooperative missions and competitive battles. In large-scale battles, the series' signature slow-motion “x-ray kill cam” allows you to see the impact of your shots in detail. “Marvel's Spider-Man 2” finally comes to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This action-adventure game continues the journey of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face new challenges in New York City, where the two Spider-Men each have their own unique powers and take on classic villains like Venom and Craven the Hunter.

The game also features a vast open world where players can explore the city, complete side missions, and hunt for collectibles. Combat is fast-paced and dynamic, blending typical web-slinging moves with stealth and strategic attacks.
