Samsung makes a lot of great phones at a variety of prices, and it's not surprising that its mid-range offerings frequently rank on lists of the best budget phones. the Galaxy A55 may not have made it to the US market in 2024, but we hopes the same will not happen to the A56.
According to a leak from X user @TheGalox_, the Galaxy S56 will have an AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, just like the Galaxy A55 screen. Similarly, the device is said to have an aluminum frame with a glass back, as well as a triple-lens rear camera array
. [Presumably, Samsung will stick with the tried-and-true combination of a 50MP main lens, 12MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro lens seen on the Galaxy A55 and A54. This is far more likely than Samsung suddenly debuting a telephoto lens on an inexpensive phone.
Unfortunately, @TheGalox_ also claims that the A56's selfie camera will be 12MP, which is actually a downgrade. The Galaxy A55 has a 32MP front shooter, just like the Galaxy A54 and A53. We hope this is an error.
Other notable features include a choice of 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. This, too, is much the same as before. The real upgrades seem to come elsewhere, like the fact that this phone reportedly offers a 45W charging speed. This is up from 25W on the Galaxy A55 and comparable to the speed of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
This is incredible since the standard Galaxy S24 can only deliver a 25W charging speed. Combine this with a 5,000 mAh battery, and the Galaxy A56 should have no problem maintaining power.
Not surprisingly, the chipset is an Exynos 1580 instead of last year's Exynos 1480, which is supposedly one generation better than the A55. 1480 is not the best performer in this price range, and it struggled to compete with the Google Pixel 7a and OnePlus 12R. It struggled to match up with the Google Pixel 7a and OnePlus 12R. Needless to say, if it can't outperform the Tensor chipset, it's not doing a very good job, and we expect the 1580 to push the benchmark numbers a bit higher.
The phone's price in the UK is claimed to be £439, the same price as the Galaxy A55. We don't know what it would be in other currencies, but it is unlikely to be more than $449, especially since the A55 was never released in the US. This was the price of the A54 in 2023, which was $10 more than the A55.
We don't know when the Galaxy A56 will be available in the US, but we won't have to wait that long. If past A-series launches are any indication, this phone should be available around March.
