Netflix is gearing up for exciting new programming in 2025, and one of its centerpiece titles is the conspiracy thriller “Zero Day,” Robert De Niro's first TV role... This highly anticipated show, which will hit the streaming service on February 20, 2025, is already on my must-see list.
Created by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, this limited series delves into the aftermath of a devastating nationwide cyber attack. De Niro stars as a beloved former U.S. president on a mission to lead a high-stakes investigation. Zero Day“ is about the aftermath of a devastating cyber attack that kills thousands of people and threatens to push a nation already teetering on the edge of a cliff,” Newman told Netflix.
Watch the trailer below:
Oppenheim also said: “The show also looks at the cost of power for those called upon to take on such enormous challenges.
De Niro, in a gripping teaser, takes the lead in exposing the truth behind “Zero Day” and clearly doesn't miss a beat. As President Mitchell, played by Angela Bassett, tells him in the trailer, “People will believe what they need to believe.”
The trailer also features Jesse Plemons as Roger Carlson, a former aide to George Mullen. Roger is now an astute fixer and an imposing hustler. Lizzy Caplan also stars as Alexandra Mullen, a rising New York congresswoman. She is tireless in her efforts to make her own way and break out of her father's imposing political shadow.
If you're intrigued, here's everything you need to know about “Zero Day” ahead of its February 2025 premiere.
“Zero Day” follows George Mullen (De Niro), a respected former president who now heads the Zero Day Commission. Mullen faces an uphill battle as he is tasked with uncovering the culprits behind a devastating cyber attack that has wreaked havoc on the nation and claimed thousands of lives.
As misinformation spreads and the ambitions of technology, Wall Street, and powerful government officials collide, his relentless pursuit of the truth forces him to confront buried personal secrets and put everything he holds dear at risk.
“Zero Day” marks De Niro's debut as an actor and executive producer of a television series. Newman told Netflix: “As a lifelong fan of American cinema, no actor has impressed me more than Robert De Niro. To have him as a producing partner and star in this show is beyond anything we could have imagined, and thanks to Netflix's continued trust and support, I am thrilled to be working with the amazing creative team of Noah, Leslie and Jonathan on this timely (and terrifying) series! I am thrilled to be working with Noah, Leslie and Jonathan on this timely (and terrifying) series.”
Newman also added, “[De Niro] has been a great partner in this process. I can count on one hand the number of actors and actresses in history who bring such gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”
Newman and Oppenheim, both Emmy Award winners, will write and produce the series and also serve as executive producers. Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Michael S. Schmidt will both write and executive produce with Jonathan Glickman; Academy Award nominee Lesli Linka Glatter, known for her work on HOMELAND, will direct all six episodes and executive producer.
“Zero Day” will have six episodes and is currently planned as a limited series. The cast includes Connie Britton as the shrewd and strategic politician Valerie Whitesell, Dan Stevens as the charismatic but polarizing host of a very popular political show Evan Greene, and Joan Allen as former first lady and federal judge candidate Sheila Mullen The film is a must-see for any fan of the show.
There are many Netflix shows I am looking forward to next year, and “American Primeval” is at the top of the list. But after seeing the trailer for “Zero Day,” it instantly became one of my must-sees for 2025. What makes this conspiracy thriller stand out is that it feels like it's ripped straight from reality.
I've always been drawn to a good conspiracy thriller, especially a memorable one. Zero Day dives into the battle to uncover the truth in a world torn apart and teetering on the brink by forces beyond our control. In these days of conspiracy theories and deception, this show may even explore how much of this chaos is our own creation (or just our imagination).
Fortunately, “Zero Day” comes to Netflix on February 20, 2025, so we won't have to wait long to see it all unfold. If you hate waiting like I do, binge and enjoy these shows on Netflix. Also check out this week's new Netflix shows, including “Squid Game” Season 2 and “Maestro in Blue” Season 3.
Stream “Zero Day” on Netflix starting February 20, 2025.
