Pixel 10 Pro concept video conjures up crazy camera redesign

Samsung and OnePlus' new flagship Android phones may arrive next month, but Google typically updates its devices in the fall. In other words, the Pixel 10 will not be unveiled for 10 months, but that did not stop YouTube design channel 4RMD from developing a radical concept video for a Pro version of the phone.

The video, with the channel's usual high production values, has the look and feel of a big smartphone announcement, but with radically different design elements that will almost certainly never happen.

Instead of the iconic horizontal camera visor that has graced the top of Google phones since the Pixel 6, 4RMD imagines the company going vertical.

While it is fun to imagine, and even stylish, one need not be too critical as to why this would actually be an impractical design.

The vertical camera rubber would not only dig into the palm of the hand when in use, but would also make it difficult for the device to remain stationary when placed on a flat surface. It would also be a nightmare for wireless charging.

Indeed, one of the few Pixel 10 leaks we have seen so far, purportedly of a phone case by leaker Sonny Dickson, clearly shows the camera rubber in the same place and orientation as before.

Not only is the placement of the camera rubber questionable, but 4RMD will also see Google significantly increase the screen size, with 6.4“ and 6.9” models available (up 0.1” from the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL respectively), thinner bezels, a punch-hole camera smaller, and we imagine it will have a 5,300mAh battery (but it does not specify which model).

Designers imagine a 64MP trio camera lens (up from 50/48/48MP on the current model), “improved low light” and up to 50x zoom. And since this is a Google phone, Gemini AI enhancements are hinted at - and seamlessly displayed, even increasing the smile of the subject of the photo in real time.

All of these features are speculative, but the one that is almost certainly correct in the video is the Tensor G5 processor, which is flagged to be manufactured on a 3nm manufacturing process, something that has been predicted for some time.

In fact, it's still a little too early for the Pixel 10 rumors to really take off, but there are a few things we'd love to see: the Pixel series is often on our list of best smartphones, but its Tensor processor has lagged behind Qualcomm and Apple chips in lagging behind in performance, and we'd love to see Google catch up in 2025.

More importantly, however, we would like to see Google maintain its current MSRP range in 2025 after three years of $100 price increases--$799 for the regular Pixel, $999 for the Pro, and $1099 for the Pro XL. But with prices for everything rising and talk of tariff hikes, that may be wishful thinking.
