According to a new post from Google, Google Drive users with workspaces will soon have access to the long-awaited media playback feature.
Google Drive is one of the best file-sharing services available today. In October, for example, Google unveiled its newly revamped media player. The new design looks suspiciously like the layout of the Apple TV+ video player, but features new auto-transcription and faster load times. Google appears to add more, stating that it will reduce video load times to almost instantaneous.
In a recent Workspace blog post, Google announced that instant playback is now available in the web browser for Google Workspace users. This new addition eliminates the wait time between uploading a video file and playing it. The blog post does not elaborate on what changes were made to the code to make this possible, but by all accounts, everything that was changed seems to be working.
Google has also improved accessibility with new keyboard shortcuts. In the same blog post, the company said it plans to phase out old keyboard shortcuts and replace them with more accessible options. The new shortcuts will be widely available to Google Workspace users by January 13, 2025. The new shortcuts appear to be easier to use at first glance, but time will tell if they improve usability.
Google Drive is not the only feature that Google has upgraded in recent months. For example, a recent report found that new AI added to Google Chrome can help detect, monitor, and relay potential scams on any site you visit. Meanwhile, Google Maps recently received five major improvements aimed at improving the overall experience. For example, Google Maps can now offer immersive views and EV trip planning.
Google is always working to improve the experience, and the ability to instantly view videos is a major step forward toward that goal. Hopefully, the same functionality will be added to the Google Drive app to simplify sending and receiving videos created on the phone.
