Top 7 New Shows Available This Week on Netflix, Prime Video and More (Dec. 30-Jan. 5)

As 2024 comes to a close and a new year begins, streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video, as well as broadcast and cable TV channels, continue to launch new television shows.

Awards season kicks off with the Golden Globe Awards, which honor the year's best in film and television. Several new series will debut, including Harlan Coben's new mystery/thriller “Missing You,” Denis Leary's military comedy “Going Dutch,” and the real estate reality drama “Selling the City. In addition, “Mayfair Witches” and “The Rig” return for new seasons. Here are the top new shows to check out this week.

Harlan Coben's newest show kicks off the new year with a thrilling mystery. Detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) gets a shock while swiping through a dating app. Josh was her fiancé who disappeared from her life 11 years ago. Josh's reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father's murder and uncovers secrets long buried in her past. ► Episodes 1-5 premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, January 1 at 3 a.m. ET

Colin Firth leads the cast of this British miniseries based on a true story: on December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing the passengers and crew All 259 people on board and 11 residents on the ground were killed. Following the accident, Dr. Jim Swire (Firth) is appointed to speak for the families of the British victims who demand answers. Determined to achieve their goals, Jim embarks on a relentless journey across continents and political divides. In his pursuit of the truth, Jim's faith in the justice system begins to crumble and his worldview is forever changed. ► Episodes 1-5 premiere Thursday, January 2 at 3 a.m. ET on Peacock

This supernatural thriller returns with more spine-tingling terror for the crew of the oil rig Kinloch Bravo. The surviving crew members arrive at a secret offshore facility called “Stack” deep within the harsh and unforgiving Arctic Circle. Confined there, the crew must not only cope with the emotional and physical damage caused by the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, but also battle swirling conspiracies, corporate rivalries, and new threats from the dark depths of the ocean. Episodes 1-6 premiere on Prime Video on Thursday, January 2 at 12 a.m. ET

Denis Leary will headline his first television show since FX's “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,” which ended in 2016. Starring Patrick Quinn, a U.S. Army colonel, he is an arrogant loudmouth. For his outbursts, he is reassigned to a new base in the Netherlands as punishment. Having been posted to every war zone for the past 30 years, he now finds himself in charge of an unimportant base with no weapons or tactical objectives. But there is a bowling alley and the Army's only fromagerie. Quinn cracks the whip on a new group of underdogs and the base's former leader ...... He takes on a fight with her, who happens to be his daughter. ...... Episode 1 premieres Thursday, January 2 at 9:30 PM ET on FOX (via Sling or Fubo) streaming the next day on Hulu

The soapy real estate reality show never ends. Next we will see Duluth brokers stabbing each other in the back. The creators of “Selling Sunset” and “Selling OC” are heading to the opposite shore for a new series set in New York City. A dynamic group of no-nonsense agents affiliated with Douglas Elliman sell luxury properties while navigating personal drama, inter-office rivalries, and career ambitions ► Episodes 1-6 premiere Friday, January 3 at 3am ET on Netflix Broadcast

After last year's Golden Globes host Joe Coy bombed, things can only get better with this year's host, Nikki Glazer, who had great success with Tom Brady's Roast. The awards ceremony itself, as well as the emcees, should provide some memorable moments. The sight of drunken movie and TV stars mingling will be a highlight enough. As for the actual awards, “Emilia Perez” leads the film category with 10 Golden Globe nominations, while “The Bear” leads the TV category with five nominations. ►The special premiere airs Sunday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount Plus with Showtime

Here comes the witchy stuff again. The second season of this Anne Rice adaptation follows Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario) after she unwittingly gives birth to the demon Lasher (Jack Huston).
