“Agatha All Along” was a surprise hit for Marvel and Disney Plus. Early reviews were divided between critics and audiences, but both have since responded favorably. Season 1 currently has an 83% Fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83% Popcornmeter rating from viewer reviews.

Clearly, Disney and Marvel executives are aware of this favorable buzz.

According to Variety, Marvel Television Studios (parent company Disney) will submit the next awards season as a comedy series rather than a limited series. This includes the Golden Globes in January and next year's Creative Arts Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards.

Submitting as a comedy series means that Disney will allow a second season of “Agatha All Along.”

It is not impossible that Disney views comedy series as a weak category for the upcoming awards season. The category's leading contender, “The Bear,” is facing a backlash for not being a comedy show after a weaker-than-expected Season 3. However, perhaps “Agatha All Along” will be removed from the limited series category and placed in the comedy category because it will no longer be a limited series.

Such a move was once unprecedented, but it has already happened once this year. Shogun was originally a limited series when it first aired earlier this year. However, due to an unexpected hit and fewer competing drama series than expected, FX submitted the show as a drama series instead of a limited series. Concurrent with this news, FX also decided to air “Shogun” Season 2.

To be clear, neither Disney nor Marvel have said anything official at this time. Nor has any news, official or otherwise, been confirmed that “Agatha All Along” has been greenlit. At this point, however, it would be more shocking if Season 2 is not produced than if it is.

“Agatha All Along” begins three years after “WandaVision. Agatha Harkness (Kathy Hahn) is initially stuck in Westview and appears in a television show called “Agnes of Westview,” playing a fictional detective who is a play on Kate Winslet's character from HBO's “Mare of Easttown.” Detective Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) appears before her as she attempts to solve the murder of Jane Doe.

But Detective Vidal's true identity is Rio Vidal, another witch who reveals that Agatha is still imprisoned by Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. At the same time, a character known only as “Teen” (Joe Locke) appears and helps Agatha break free from Wanda's spell.

Once freed, Agatha forms a new coven (Debra Jo Rupp, Sacia Zamata, Ali Ann, and Patti LuPone), who join her on the witch trail and help Agatha regain her powers. They must succeed before they are captured by the Salem Seven.
