iOS 18.2 beta 2 introduces major changes to the Find My app that make it easier to help locate lost items and devices.
MacRumors discovered that the app now has the ability to share the location of new items. Find My previously allowed you to share the location of items with your contacts, but this too can be sent to people outside your address book, with Apple giving an example of finding lost luggage by sharing it with your airline in the description.
Sharing is a link, so you can access the shared location from any device, Apple or not. The link lasts for a week until it expires (or until you mark the item as found), and you can see how many people have checked the link to keep track of who is (or is not) looking for your lost item.
There is also a “Show Contacts” option. If someone finds your lost item, they can connect to it on their phone or tablet and access your phone number, email address, and other details to let you know they found your lost item.
Even when we are careful, devices can be misplaced or taken away (whether it is innocent or malicious). Sharing the location of items, rather than creating a search party of just friends and family, seems like a great extension to “Find My” to make it easier to find and return lost items.
Apple's Find My feature applies to all mobile devices, so no matter which combination of iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, and AirPods you use, you can benefit from this feature. airTag and other ” Find My” compatible key finder, this feature is even more useful when using a ‘Find My’ compatible key finder, as it can share the location of the item to help locate what the tracker can be worn or put in.
The second development beta of iOS 18.2 also adds the option to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus via iPhone Settings. accessing ChatGPT via Siri or Visual Intelligence as part of iOS 18.2 Seeing that most users may be perfectly fine with using the free version via the iPhone, it makes sense to offer users the option to pay to access the best version of the ChatGPT experience on their device.
The first public beta of iOS 18.2 is expected to be released later this month, and Apple has promised to release a stable version for all compatible iPhone users by December.
