Hulu consistently offers highly rated movies. And every month, more and more movies are added to its extensive library, which is why Hulu is one of the best streaming services.
But sometimes it can be a struggle to find exactly which new arrivals are worth watching first. Lucky for us, we sifted through the new films available on Hulu this November and came up with a group of films that meet the rare criteria of being “fresh” more than 90% of the time on Rotten Tomatoes.
This month, that means the darlings of the last few awards seasons and film festivals. Thelma was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2024 and is sure to be the talk of the awards season. Meanwhile, “The Taste of Things” and “Robot Dreams” also opened this month and were nominated for the 96th Academy Awards. Alien” and ‘La La Land’ are also on the list, and although they are older films, they too are Oscar-worthy.
Without further ado, here are this month's seven new Hulu movies with 90% or better on Rotten Tomatoes, and don't forget to check out the full list of new releases coming to Hulu in November 2024.
“Alien” is James Cameron's 1986 sequel to Ridley Scott's phenomenal 1979 film “Alien.” But unlike Scott's horror/thriller in which aliens hunt down a ship and kill nearly the entire crew, Cameron's film is pure science fiction action gold. And this time, the humans hunt the aliens.
In “Alien,” Sigourney Weaver reprises her role as Ellen Ripley. Ripley is the sole survivor of the first film, and when communication is lost with a human colony near where she encountered the aliens in the first film, she agrees to return to that location. She joins up with Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, and a squad of Colonial Marines and begins to take action.

“La La Land” may be best known as the Oscar-winning film at the 89th Academy Awards. But what is often lost sight of there is that even though “Moonlight” beat “La La Land” for Best Picture, the film won Best Director and Best Actress. It is genuinely a really good film, and unusually enjoyable for a musical.
“La La Land” stars Ryan Gosling as Sebastian “Seb” Wilder, a struggling Los Angeles musician who just wants to play jazz. He eventually meets aspiring actress Amelia “Mia” Dolan (Emma Stone), and after several failed attempts, they finally begin a romantic relationship while chasing their dreams.

“Thelma” was a hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival. One day, a phone scammer impersonating her grandson Danny (Fred Hettinger) swindles her out of $10,000.
But that doesn't stop Thelma. With her family in a panic and the police unwilling to help, she sets out to find her friend and get her money back. There is only one problem. She is 93 years old and most of her friends are dead or gone. So she teams up with Ben, a friend Thelma has largely ignored since her late husband's death, and they begin the chase. Of course, laughter ensues.

“Robot Dream” is an animated tragic-comedy, a genre I must admit I had never heard of before. However, I had heard about the film and had been waiting for it to finally appear on SVOD streaming services ever since it debuted at last year's Cannes Film Festival. While “Robot Dreams” did not win Best Animated Feature at this year's Academy Awards, the Oscar-nominated film is loved by basically everyone who sees it.
The star of this animated film is ...... No, no one; for 102 minutes, there is no dialogue at all. But you don't need dialogue to enjoy this incredible story of Dog ordering a robot friend and sharing an incredible summer with that friend, which sadly takes a tragic turn. Don't miss “Robot's Dream” when it comes out on Hulu at the end of the month.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98% Available on Hulu starting November 26
“Taste of a Fall” is a strangely controversial film, but only because it was nominated for Best International French Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards, beating out “Anatomy of a Fall” It is a film that is both strange and controversial. While “Anatomy of a Fall” was nominated for five Academy Awards and won for Best Screenplay, “Ajiichimonme” was not even nominated in the end.
But don't let the politics of awards season distract you from enjoying this French romance film about the love of an 1889 cook and the gourmand (we call him a foodie) with whom she works. The performances of Juliette Binoche as Eugénie (the cook) and Benoit Magimel as Dodin Bouffant (the gourmand) are worth seeing, and the film has received almost universal praise.

“Second Best” star William Hurt plays Graham Holt. Graham is a single man approaching middle age. He wants to adopt a son. He is paired with James (Chris Cleary), a young man who has become psychotic and self-harming from living in an orphanage.
Based on the 1991 novel of the same name, this British drama is not for the faint of heart. James' penchant for self-harm alone may be enough of a trigger to turn one away from the film, but Graham and James' struggle to connect is an emotional one with twists and turns. However, Graham and James' struggle to have a heart-to-heart is a moving one, not a straightforward one.

“Crazy Heart” is based on Thomas Cobb's novel of the same name, inspired by the life of country singer Hank Thompson. Starring Jeff Bridges as Otis “Bud” Blake, a former country music star who, after several failed marriages and a drinking problem, performs in a small town bar in the American Southwest.
But Otis finally tries to turn his life around when he starts dating a young journalist named Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Unfortunately, his drinking problem constantly plagues him and threatens to ruin the life he is trying to build. At first glance, this film may seem similar to “A Star is Born,” but don't worry. It's definitely not.
