The secrets of the iOS 18.2 developer beta are becoming more apparent as early adopters try out the new software. Its latest version includes unfinished improvements to charging.
9to5Mac code divers have discovered a “BatteryIntelligence” framework that can be used to predict iPhone charging times. This feature is not active within iOS 18.2 and appears to be incomplete.
In iOS 18, it makes sense to provide custom charging notifications by default, since recent iPhones can stop charging above 80-95% in order to extend battery uptime. If the estimate only works for 100% charging, this system would be of little use to these users.
Predicting charging times is a brand new feature for iOS, but Android phones have already offered charging time estimates for years. Some brands even send notifications to let you know when the battery is fully charged, for added utility. This is not a new feature for Apple either; MacBooks display the estimated time until fully charged when plugged in.
This battery intelligence feature is apparently still in progress, though not finished, so hopefully it will be enabled in a future iOS 18.2 beta, and from there it may be available as an update for non-beta users by the end of the year (according to leaked information). If not, it may be included in iOS 18.3 or a later version and appear at some point in 2025.
If you have the iOS 18.2 developer beta installed, you can expect new features like Genmoji and Image Playground, plus updates to the Mail app, a new feature to share Find My Location with anyone via a link, and Apple If you want to make Intelligence even more intelligent, you can also try the option to pay for ChatGPT Plus from the Settings menu. iOS 18.2 is not yet publicly available, but if the rumored stable version to be released in December is accurate, it will soon If the rumored stable release in December is accurate, it will be out shortly.
