Google has begun rolling out the promised charge limit feature for Pixel phones, making it easier to keep batteries healthy.
Keeping a phone in use for extended periods of time can be challenging, but one of the best ways to protect your device is to keep the battery healthy. This is more important than making sure the battery eats its vegetables; it is more important to keep the phone charged. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to not leave your phone at 100% for long periods of time, but this can be tricky if you leave your phone charging overnight.
Google has announced a solution for Android 15 called Battery Charge Limit, which keeps the device at 80% charge. This feature was originally expected to be released in December with Android 15 QPR 1, but it appears that it will actually be released a bit earlier; a recent post by Telegram user @SlimRock (via Android Authority) for Pixel phones shared an image of this feature in action in the Android 15 November update.
The image above shows how the feature works, with two options available. Selecting the Battery menu allows the user to select a new tab called Charge Optimization. In this sub-menu, the user can choose to limit the charge to 80% or adaptive charging. Both options have their uses, but giving the user more choices will help keep the phone's battery healthy.
This is not the only change coming to Google phones, as it was recently announced that a major update is coming to Pixel screenshots. In the upcoming update, Google will overhaul the homepage UI and add several new features to improve the user experience. Meanwhile, there are some indications that Android 16 may be coming sooner than expected, alongside some changes to the way the device is used.
Getting the most out of your device is important, and these additions will help keep the best Android phones in use longer. For that reason, now is a great time to get one, especially with the Black Friday cell phone deals right around the corner.
