When Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón and Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett team up for a show on Apple TV Plus, one of the best streaming services because it has almost nothing but great content, you have to pay a little attention.

Blanchett stars as Catherine Ravensworth in this thriller miniseries. Despite her background, however, Catherine has a few skeletons in her own closet, most of which are safely forgotten--at least until someone from her past writes a novel in which her past misdeeds play a central role. Now that this miniseries has reached its finale, check out some of the other shows like “Disclaimer.”

Streaming alongside “Disclaimer” on Apple TV Plus, “Severance” is a dark sci-fi story psycho-thriller that redefines the concept of work-life balance. In this world, characters working in a typical corporate office have their lives literally divided between work and private life. They basically function as a manager's dream: when they are in the office, they have no memory of life outside the office, and vice versa.

But when the line between the two begins to blur, things get a little tricky for the heroes. Severance features a top-notch cast, including Adam Scott, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette, and its first season garnered Emmy accolades. Due to its success, the show has been renewed for a second season and is slated to hit screens in 2025.

What happens when a media heir goes missing? The police begin gathering suspects. Suspicion revolves around one such case, in which several people in London and New York have their lives completely upended when the police begin to believe they are involved in a kidnapping.

“Suspicion,” which was canceled after one season, is a tense depiction of the need to get behind the law and prove innocence. With an all-star cast including Jennifer Ehle, Noah Emmerich, Uma Thurman, and Kunar Neyer, “Suspicion” is worth adding to your viewing list.

It's hard to delve into the thriller world without including at least one detective drama. After all, who doesn't love a good murder mystery? In “Collateral,” starring Carey Mulligan, the filmmaker begins investigating the murder of a seemingly mundane pizza delivery driver, only to discover that her case has more layers than an onion.

Determined to solve the murder, she works to peel back the layers, but her investigation has serious and unexpected ramifications for interconnected individuals throughout the city. She soon discovers that there may be more to the murders than meets the eye, and that influential figures in political and religious circles are desperate to avoid involvement with the case for their own complex personal reasons. Collateral aired as a four-episode limited series on the BBC in 2018 before being distributed on Netflix.

Few thriller series get on immediately, but Miranda Otto, who plays a cult leader, happens to be one of them. In The Clearing, she plays the charismatic leader of a group called “Kindred,” who kidnap and indoctrinate children. Teresa Palmer plays a woman who comes face to face with her past as a member of a group called the “Kindred” when a child goes missing in her hometown.

Based on a real cult in Australia, “Clearing” represents the macabre manipulation of the maternal role as Otto's Adrienne acts like a mother in a community of young believers, taming them and drawing them deeper into her web The film is a work of art. With stories from two different eras running concurrently and fascinating performances throughout the case, “The Clearing” is a compelling look at the dark side of maternal love.

We love female-driven thrillers. Keri Russell stars in “The Diplomat,” about a lifelong diplomat who is tapped by the President of the United States to be the new ambassador to the United Kingdom. She is much more comfortable out of the limelight, as evidenced by her less than glamorous diplomatic assignment in the Middle East, but it is clear that her career is on the rise and she must adjust to life on the global stage. Her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) is a savvy and charismatic politician who plays the game far better than she does.

“The Diplomat” has become a Netflix hit and recently released its second season. A third season is already in the works.
