iOS 18.1 has been released, giving you your first taste of Apple Intelligence features. But while it is exciting to finally have AI on your iPhone, the next iOS 18.2 update will be packed with even more exciting features, including ChatGPT and Visual Intelligence.

At this time, iOS 18.2 is only available in developer beta, with a public beta version likely to arrive in the coming weeks. As for the public version, however, Apple confirmed in a press release that iOS 18.2 will be available for download and enjoyment at some point in December.

This press release primarily marks the official release of Apple Intelligence. iOS 18.2 was not named, but Apple did state that more features will be released in December, indicating exactly which new features will be available to us

iOS 18.3.

iOS 18.2 will be especially exciting for iPhone 16 owners as it will be the official release of Apple's Visual Intelligence feature. This AI vision feature is exclusive to the iPhone 16 and combines Apple Intelligence with the camera to scan and analyze everything around you.

Whether it's translating text, detailing objects encountered, various business details, or scanning QR codes, Visual Intelligence can help with anything. iPhone 16's camera control buttons make it easy to tap-and-hold

iOS 18

The lighting tools introduced in iOS 18.1 will also be upgraded in 18.2. Part of this includes the ability to give Apple Intelligence a prompt to “describe specific changes you want to apply to your text. This includes things like adding “more dynamic action words” to a resume or making a party invitation read like a poem.

Writing tools will also be able to integrate with ChatGPT, giving users access to a wealth of information and features not otherwise available, such as document and image recognition. All without the need to switch to a different app to access them.

Adding ChatGPT to WritingTools requires bringing ChatGPT itself to the platform. iOS 18.2 will bring a variety of features from OpenAI chatbots to the iPhone. This includes integration with both Siri and Visual Intelligence, with the goal of using ChatGPT's skills and experience to do what Apple's AI cannot currently handle.

Finally, iOS 18.2 brings multiple AI image generation tools to the iPhone. The primary vehicle for this is the Image Playground app, which provides a familiar experience with AI image generation - using written prompts to create images from scratch.

There is also Genmoji, which uses generative AI to create custom emojis in the Messages app, and Image Wand, a sketch-to-image feature for the Notes app ChatGPT also has a new feature that, if you want something a little different, allows you to can generate images for you.

While you're waiting for all these features to come to the iPhone, you can enjoy the new Apple Intelligence options that are part of iOS 18.1, including a more organized Mail app, a smarter Siri, and cleaner photo editing.
