The conflict was nasty and brutal, with heavy use of IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and often fought at close range, and the film marks the first time these soldiers have spoken on television about the traumatic effects of their many bloody encounters.
The regiment suffered unprecedented casualties during its six-month deployment, losing soldiers at nearly every rank up to lieutenant colonel.
The Guard, still bound by brotherly bonds, revisits the events, but the conversation includes their loved ones, and 15 years later, they have all had time to process their sacrifices in the context of the Taliban's return to power in 2021.
