The glow-in-the-dark edition of the Nothing Phone 2a is exactly what we need more of.

Nothing already has a reputation for attractive cell phone design, as evidenced by the sparkling looks of the Nothing Phone 2 and Nothing Phone 2a. Both feature Nothing's pioneering Glyph interface for cell phones, but the company's latest offerings are fresh and show how small changes can make a big difference. Today, the company introduces the final result of its Community Edition project, the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition, which makes the popular budget phone glow in the dark. This glow-in-the-dark version complements Griff Interface's LED lights, which use a greenish phosphorescent material on a portion of the phone's back to give it a soft glow in the dark.

According to videos and images, this phosphorescent material outlines a ribbon coil that snakes around the back of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus, as well as around the camera. The result is a soft, iridescent glow that illuminates the phone when it is dark outside. It looks really pretty and complements the lights in its glyph interface. And like other glow-in-the-dark finishes, it is purely analog and requires no power source; according to Nothing, the glow lasts “several hours” and fades gradually, but can be “recharged” with daylight. The Community Edition project is the result of a collaboration between Nothing and the talented recipients selected for the project: Astrid Van Hooys, Kenta Akasaki, Andres Mateos, Ian Henry Simmons, and Sonya Palma. In addition to the physical changes, this Community Edition has the same features and functionality that we have already seen in the Nothing Phone 2a Plus. But it boasts six new wallpapers that complement its glow-in-the-dark design.

Nothing's series of eye-catching designs continues to show that some of the best budget phones can differentiate themselves in this way over the typical flagship, and more smartphone manufacturers need to realize this. The best chance to get your hands on this glow-in-the-dark version will be to order it from Nothing's site or buy it in person at the Nothing Store Soho in London on November 16 at 11:00 GMT. As a refresher, this model has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, dual rear cameras, Dimensity 7350 chip, 8GB/12GB of RAM, and a 5,000 mAh battery.
