To no one's surprise, Apple announced the M4 MacBook Pro.
This came shortly after the announcement of the M4 iMac and is easily the highlight of all Mac news this week, as these new MacBooks have been upgraded with the new Apple M4 chip.
Apple announced the 2024 MacBook Pro with three chip options: the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max. Whichever model you choose, the laptop is designed to take advantage of Apple Intelligence, including Writing Tools and the new Siri.
Apple offers a base model with a 14-inch display, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, at least 16GB of memory, and a starting price of $1,599, with black and silver finishes and a fast M4 chip.
It has one more port and twice as much RAM than the M3 MacBook Pro. And this time, you don't have to jump up to a higher-end model to get the black color.
Upgrading to the M4 Pro or Max not only adds the performance of a faster chip, but also adds a Thunderbolt 5 port for even more speed and performance.
All new M4 MacBook Pro models come with Apple's Liquid Retina XDR display (which delivers up to 1,000 nits of brightness) and a new nanotextured display option. This reduces glare.
The new M4 MacBook Pro also features an upgraded 12MP Center Stage camera. So video calls should look sharper and the camera can follow your movements.
Apple promises that this new M4 MacBook will offer up to 24 hours of battery life; given that the 16-inch MacBook Pro M3 Max lasted over 17 hours in our test lab, we have high hopes for the M4 model.
According to Apple, all three M4 chips are made with second-generation 3-nanometer technology, which improves performance and power efficiency. They promise to have the world's fastest CPU cores, but we'll have to test these new Pros ourselves to see how they compare to the best laptops on the market.
All M4 MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order today and will ship on November 8. As mentioned, the most affordable model is the 14-inch, starting at $1,599. The most expensive model is the 16-inch, with an entry price of $2,499 (depending on configuration).
