AMD held its Q3 2024 earnings call this week and confirmed that it will launch its next-generation RDNA 4 graphics cards in early 2025; AMD CEO Lisa Su said the new GPUs will be part of AMD's strongest PC portfolio ever.
“We plan to launch the first RDNA 4 GPU in early 2025,” Su said on the conference call, later telling PCWorld that this was the first time AMD had publicly announced this roadmap.
Regarding the performance of the new GPUs, Su said on the conference call, “In addition to significant improvements in gaming performance, RDNA 4 will also offer significantly improved ray tracing performance and new AI capabilities.”
The chip reveal next year claims that AMD will unveil RNDA 4 graphics at CES 2025 in January along with many other parts including the Ryzan AI 300 Max series, Ryzen Z2 extreme for handheld APUs, and Ryzen 9 CPUs for desktops This seems to confirm the leak from this week (via Videocardz).
During the conference call, AMD revealed that data centers account for the majority of the company's revenue, with gaming accounting for only 2%. This is partially due to the fact that the current generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft appears to be coming to an end. However, that could change in the coming years.
Sue suggested that AMD is leaning toward AI with the goal of “making AMD the end-to-end AI leader,” as AMD appears to be on the same AI-focused path as rival Nvidia, which appears to have shifted its focus entirely to artificial intelligence, This is not really a surprise.
AMD is clearly still working in this area despite its move away from gaming, and CES 2025 should be an exciting one for PC gaming fans; Nvidia is expected to unveil its RTX 5000 series, which is expected to be quite powerful, while Intel is expected to announce its new RTX 5000 series, which is expected to be the most powerful in the market. If Intel unravels Arrow Lake or is sold, their next line will also fill CES attendees.
