“Jack Ryan” is back! John Krasinski is back, too.
It has been exactly one year since we said goodbye to Krasinski and his hero, CIA Deputy Director Jack Ryan. And now, because Amazon MGM Studios is bringing Krasinski back and promoting him to the silver screen.
Deadline reports that Krasinski and fellow “Jack Ryan” show star Wendell Pierce will star in an untitled “Jack Ryan” movie. The film is said to be an extension of the prime video series, which ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2023.
And since the film will serve as a sequel to the show, they are not the only stars who have been unofficially confirmed to return; Deadline reports that Michael Kelly is currently in talks to join Krasinski and Pierce and reprise his role as CIA station chief Mike November According to the report.
Aside from these details, there are a few other important facts in Deadline's report. The film will be directed by Andrew Bernstein, who once served as executive producer on season two of the spy thriller series.
On the one hand, this is a somewhat puzzling hire, given that, according to Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 was the worst-received season by critics and audiences alike. Bernstein will reportedly not be writing the movie script, however, and according to Deadline, the writer will be Aaron Rabin, who co-executive produced and wrote the show's fourth and final season. Both he and Bernstein are obviously safe picks who are familiar with the character.
The film will also be produced by Amazon MGM Studios in conjunction with Paramount Pictures and Paramount's soon-to-be parent company Skydance. Therefore, it is possible that the film will appear on Paramount Plus after it appears on Prime Video.
As already noted, the “Jack Ryan” show ended last year with the conclusion of Season 4. With the announcement of this sequel film, two projects are reportedly in development in the “Jack Ryan” universe.
The other project is a Prime Video spin-off series, announced in 2022, when Prime Video revealed the end of the main series. The spin-off series will feature Michael Peña as Domingo Chavez, a role that Peña played in season 4 of Jack Ryan. However, it has been some time since we heard an update on that show, so its status is not certain.
