One UI 7, Samsung's interface for Android 15, will not be available on existing Galaxy phones for some time after Samsung teased the update at its developer conference earlier this month.
When Samsung mentioned the upcoming beta program for the update, we didn't get much information about what to expect from One UI 7. But thanks to a huge new leak via Android Headlines, we now have an idea of how the UI is changing and some of the new features that will be available in the update arriving next year.
Thanks to a video leaked earlier this week, we already know that One UI 7 will be a faster and more fluid experience.
So what else is coming?
The major icons we are accustomed to, such as the camera app, calculator, and phone app, will likely be redesigned with tweaked symbols. This redesign was announced with little warning during the SDC. Currently, the main app icons are simple white symbols on a distinctly colored background.
In One UI 7, it appears that the symbols will have more depth and in some cases new colors. As an example, the current camera app icon features a cut-out camera symbol on a red background, unlike the flower icon on a pink background.
The new version will feature a more detailed camera symbol on a silver background, and the gallery icon will likely add a gradient and flower shading. Similarly, the One Ui 7's settings app is said to change from a white background to a detailed gray gear. Allegedly, the redesign will make the app icons more clearly visible.
In addition, the One UI 7 update is expected to introduce an enhanced lock screen and smart notification management, changes that will make incoming alerts more distinguishable.
Homework help, announced by Google during I/O in May, is already present for Pixel 9 phones, but appears to be coming to Galaxy devices with One UI 7.
Essentially, this feature allows users to use Circle to Search to help with math and physics problems. Circle a math problem and Google will show you videos, related search results, and explanations without having to leave the app you are in.
Energy Score launched on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, but apparently this fitness tool is being updated to “make you more aware of the impact on your health and your daily life.” Again, details on how the Energy Score will actually improve were sparse.
In a brief clip, the Energy Score app offers advice on how to improve your Energy Score, such as finding time to relax, logging sleep, and encouraging a more active lifestyle.
Apparently, One UI 7 will come with a number of new parental controls, including the ability to access approved websites and apps while blocking others. It also appears to add the ability to check someone's location, similar to Apple's “Find My Friends” tool that has existed for years.
As with any technology these days, it wouldn't be an update without new AI features, and some of the features rumored to be added in One UI 7 include adding “Live Effects” to images to add depth, re-styling portraits (or even to look like a cartoon or 3D animation), and an update to the Pro Visual Engine that uses “AI Zoom” to zoom up to 100x.
Also, Sketch to Image, which debuted on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, was claimed to be more powerful with additional options and styles.
More features should be added to One UI 7, but we won't know until early next year, when Samsung is expected to announce an update as early as December, or at the latest.
Samsung confirmed during the developer conference that One UI 7 will be included in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Ultra, and these phones are rumored to be making some progress toward a January release. Samsung has also indicated that a beta version for developers will be available in December, although no specific date has been announced.
