Rumors have essentially assured us that the Samsung Galaxy S25 will be available early next year, and now a message from Samsung itself has revealed the first official details about the phone.
Samsung's Q3 2024 quarterly earnings report mentions the Galaxy S25 series by name and states that it is part of Samsung Mobile Division's further focus on future premium products, including Galaxy Z foldables.
The S25 is apparently “first half of next year,” which encompasses a planned release date of January 2025, but could also suggest a later launch, perhaps if Samsung finds it advantageous in some way.
The report also states that the S25 “plans to enhance the Galaxy AI experience and drive innovation in everyday life,” including a larger display on the base model, an Ultra rounded rear panel, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, Despite the many rumored changes, the company suggests that the new model will focus more on software than hardware upgrades.
The Galaxy S25 news was not the only interesting nugget of information gleaned from this report. There was also mention of the XR device, originally teased by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm to be released this year, which is expected to be Samsung's answer to the Apple Vision Pro released in February.
The Samsung report mentions the XR device in the context of “enhancing the connectivity experience between our products,” which likely means that it will be a complementary device to Samsung's phones, tablets, or laptops, rather than a standalone gadget .
The only other detail we got is that it is slated for a “future” launch, which is still pretty vague to our liking, but at least indicates that the project is not dead. However, other reports suggest that a March 2025 release is also in the works.
If that wasn't enough evidence that the Samsung XR is coming, according to a new Android Authority report, there is now mention of XR headset support in the Google Play Store app. We have not heard of any other big Android brands working on the XR headset, so this is probably laying the groundwork for when Google is ready for Samsung.
There are already plenty of things pointing to a new Samsung device, but Juklanlosreve on X reports (via 9to5Google) that during a recent conference call, Samsung discussed the option of making a more affordable foldable phone.
Samsung has recently stated that a less expensive foldable is not on the horizon, but that “given the high level of satisfaction among existing foldable users, we are looking at ways to lower the barrier to entry so that more customers can actually experience foldable products.” It appears that they are still considering this.
Samsung also stated in the call that it is “preparing a new form factor,” which could refer to a tri-fold phone like Huawei's Mate XT, or a rollable phone that can expand and contract its display to meet user needs This could be referring to a tri-fold phone like Huawei's Mate XT, or a rollable phone that can expand and contract its display to fit the user's needs.
These will only appear once they “achieve a level of quality and experience that satisfies customers in a real-world usage environment,” so it will likely be some time before Samsung's all-new foldable comes to market.
