As we head into 2025, Samsung may be in for a testing year as it tries to recover from the slump of the past few years. There are reports that Samsung is considering rebranding from the Galaxy name to a premium line.
And now a new rumor from Korean publication etnews (via regular leaker Jukanlosreve) claims that Samsung is working on a “slim” model for the Galaxy S25 series. However, it will not be released with the main series.
According to the report, the Galaxy S25 Slim will be released later this year as a follow-up model. Rumor has it that the slimmer S25 will be an experimental launch to gauge public interest. If the device is successful, the Galaxy S26 Slim may join the lineup in 2026.
An unnamed industry source stated that the company may launch a small quantity to gauge market response and change the lineup in the year after next.
This is not entirely out of the blue for Samsung. The company announced the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in July. Just recently, it announced the Z Fold 6 Special Edition with a thinner, lighter, and larger display, suggesting the possibility of a slimmer S25 device around April 2025.
Leaker Jukanlosreve said, “I believe this will be accompanied by the adoption of the Exynos 2400 and an April launch.”
Samsung has struggled to get its next-generation Exynos chips off the ground below a viable yield at its foundry. However, there are reports that the company is already looking ahead to next year for its next processor. Therefore, it would not be a major surprise if the company released its own chips on an experimental basis.
Reports suggest that Samsung is considering a slim model to compete with the much-rumored iPhone 17 Slim. The slim model would replace the Plus model in Apple's iPhone lineup. Not only would it be thinner, but it might feature a smaller 6.6-inch display.
Both Apple and Samsung have been in a race to produce thinner phones in recent years, with Samsung touting the Z Fold 6 as one of Samsung's thinnest phones. Apple has spared no effort to advertise how much thinner the iPhone 16 series is compared to last year's model.
Samsung needs to shake up its cell phone business, and the more we learn about 2025, the more it seems the company is looking for new ways to entice people to buy.
