Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for next-generation smartphones is expected to be found in the best Android phones to be released next year. This is because the Asus ROG Phone 9 series will debut next month in November.
Aside from the official invitation sent by Asus, the only details we know about the upcoming Asus ROG Phone 9 series are the official launch date of November 19, 2024 and the fact that it will be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Platform. The new chipset will be used to power these phones. This new chipset is expected to take these phones to an unprecedented level and potentially make them the fastest phones ever made.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform consists of a second generation Oryon CPU and an enhanced Adreno GPU to provide the performance needed for the gaming these phones excel at. Asus describes its upcoming phones as offering an immersive, lag-free gaming experience like no other.
Given that last year's Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro scored the highest in various benchmark tests we conducted, the Snapdragon 8 Elite's 3nm manufacturing process should allow it to push out the leading competitors, including the A18 Pro-powered iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. We are confident that the 3nm manufacturing process of the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be able to push out the leading competitors, including the A18 Pro-based iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Early benchmark scores for the Snapdragon 8 Elite look promising, according to Qualcomm. On the reference device, the average single-core score was 3,221 and the average multi-core score was 10,426 on Geekbench 6.
But beyond pure muscle power, we are also concerned about the ROG Phone 9's battery life. That's because the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro currently tops the leaderboard of our best smartphone battery life list, with a time of 18 hours and 48 minutes, more than an hour faster than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Qualcomm's reputation for producing the most power efficient chips should definitely give the ROG Phone 9 series an edge over the competition.
More details on the Asus ROG Phone 9 series should be revealed at the handset maker's event next month, but the first images show that its distinctive design language is again geared toward mobile gamers.
